The Department of Information Science at the College of Life Sciences Launches its First Student Forum on Data Science and Artificial Intelligence

The Social Committee of the Department of Information Science, chaired by Dr. Fatima Hussein, organized the first student forum on data science and artificial intelligence. The forum took place at 12:30 PM on Monday, November 17, 2025, at the Roman Amphitheater.

At the outset, the Acting Head of the Department of Information Science, Professor Kassim Saleh, welcomed the attendees, emphasizing the importance of students understanding new technologies that have become fundamental to many sectors. He noted that the university is working to keep pace with global developments by updating academic programs and providing advanced learning environments. On this occasion, Dr. Abdullah Al-Mutairi provided a comprehensive overview of artificial intelligence (AI), explaining the meaning of the term and outlining its origins and development. He also highlighted key applications used globally today, such as in the medical, industrial, and security sectors, among others. He further explained data science and how it can help predict the future based on current data. Following this, Dr. Luluah Al-Sumait, a faculty member in the Department of Information Science, welcomed the first cohort of students specializing in this field in Kuwait. She presented the curriculum for the "Data Science and Artificial Intelligence" program, detailing the core courses and practical skills students acquire, such as data analysis, machine learning, and the development of intelligent systems. She emphasized the department's faculty members' ongoing commitment to supporting and assisting students. In closing, she invited students to join the ClickIT Club, which will provide them with the necessary support throughout their studies. 

In conclusion, Engineer Yousef Al-Ghanim from Warba Bank presented a vision on artificial intelligence in the industry and business sector, reviewing real examples such as the Salem application launched by the Ministry of Health, which helps in answering inquiries related to some diseases, and mentioned the role of smart solutions in improving customer experience in the banking sector, stressing that the oil sectors can use artificial intelligence to save money, time and effort.
