The English Language Unit at the College of Life Sciences held an event in collaboration with National Geographic Learning.

Under the patronage of the Acting Dean of the College of Life Sciences, Dr. Ahmed Rashid Al-Lafi, the English Language Unit organized an event in collaboration with National Geographic Learning. The event took place from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at the college's Roman Amphitheater. The Head of the Unit, Ms. Alia Bousakher, opened the event with a welcoming address, outlining its objectives and importance in enhancing the educational process within the college. She emphasized that such events strengthen the academic skills of students and other interested individuals, while also enriching their linguistic abilities. 

It is worth noting that the event featured three expert speakers who addressed diverse topics. Professor Safaa Al-Salem, a faculty member in the English Language Unit, discussed writing quality and the challenges students face in light of the development of artificial intelligence tools. She highlighted how to utilize the Copilot program, provided by Kuwait University, to support instructors and enable them to employ artificial intelligence in a thoughtful way that benefits students and enhances their learning experience. 

Meanwhile, Ms. Tiana Miševska, Executive Sales Manager at National Geographic Learning, spoke about the importance of visual literacy and its role in helping students analyze visual content within books. This contributes to broadening their horizons and understanding of the world around them, opening a window to diverse cultures and perspectives. For her part, Ms. Catherine Hollings, Academic Services Consultant at National Geographic Learning, focused on reading skills, explaining the role of the instructor in adopting effective strategies that support the reading process and enrich students' vocabulary by teaching pre-reading, reading, and post-reading skills. 

At the conclusion of the event, the Head of the English Language Unit, Ms.Alia Bu Sakher honored the Acting Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs, Research and Graduate Studies, Dr. Tariq Al-Shatti, who was acting on behalf of Professor Al-Lafi, in appreciation of his efforts in supporting this event. The speakers were also honored by Dr. Al-Shatti, the Acting Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, Dr. Sharifa Al-Kandari, and the Acting Head of the Department of Information Science, Professor Qasim Saleh, in appreciation of their efforts in enriching the event's themes.
