The College of Life Sciences hosted an academic delegation from the University of California, Irvine's Samueli School of Engineering (UCI). Professor Fadi Kordahi of UCI met with several departments and academic offices at Kuwait University and with faculty members from the Department of Information Sciences at the College of Life Sciences. The delegation discussed prospects for joint research and academic collaboration, as well as potential future partnerships and joint research projects.
On the sidelines of the visit, the visiting delegation gave an introductory lecture to students from the College of Computing on the importance of pursuing graduate studies in the fields of computer science, computer engineering, and information science. Ms. Amy Pham opened the lecture with a speech highlighting the importance of graduate studies in opening up new professional and academic horizons. She also presented the Master of Science in Embedded and Cyber-Physical Systems (MECPS) program, highlighting the development opportunities available to students.
In this context, Ms. Nikki Spratt explained the difference between professional and traditional master's programs, emphasizing the importance of choosing the most appropriate track for students' academic and professional aspirations, and how these programs open up horizons in fields in demand today.
The presentation also touched on additional programs, most notably the six-week intensive summer program, which received significant student engagement, in addition to other programs. The speakers explained that outstanding projects may give their owners the opportunity to pursue a doctorate with research grants. It is worth noting that the lecture witnessed remarkable interaction from the students, who asked many questions about the information presented.
This visit comes within the framework of strengthening academic and research cooperation between Kuwait University and one of the most prominent American and international universities, contributing to expanding the horizons of students and researchers towards new global opportunities.
