The first annual meeting of the Joint Cooperation Agreement between Kuwait University and Kuwait Petroleum Corporation and its subsidiaries in the field of comprehensive risk management was held on Monday morning, May 12, 2025, at the Kuwait Oil Tanker Company (KOTC) Theater. This meeting is a follow-up and coordination of the agreement signed by the President of Kuwait University with the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation and its subsidiaries in 2023. The meeting was coordinated by the Office of the Assistant Dean for Planning, Consulting, and Training, represented by members of the main committee for monitoring the implementation of the agreement from the College of Life Sciences. At the beginning of the meeting, a documentary video was shown of the signing of the agreement in 2023 between Kuwait University and Kuwait Petroleum Corporation and its subsidiaries. Dr. Muhammad Al-Shawaf, a member of the main committee for monitoring the implementation of the agreement and a representative of Kuwait University, then delivered a speech in which he thanked the corporation for providing the opportunity to conduct field training for some Kuwait University students. He stated that, based on the mutual trust between the academic and oil sectors, the cooperation agreement was based on four main objectives: promoting a culture of risk and awareness within the oil sector to effectively implement risk management; developing national cadres in the field of risk management and its various issues; enhancing the global presence of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) as a leader in comprehensive risk management; and joint cooperation to provide training programs. "Some of these objectives have been achieved, most notably student training." Concluding his remarks, he thanked everyone who contributed to this cooperation. It is worth noting that students Manar Al-Ajmi and Dana Al-Bakhit from the Department of Information Sciences in the College of Life Sciences at KPC were trained. Students from the Department of Environmental Sciences will also be trained during the summer semester, in implementation of the terms of the agreement between the two parties. Finally, the items and suggestions presented during the meeting were reviewed, and thanks were extended to all sectors that participated in this agreement and made it a success.
