As part of the College of Life Sciences at Kuwait University's commitment to supporting sustainable cultural development and enhancing students' knowledge, Dr. Iman Ta'ma Al-Shammari, professor of the "Computer and Society" course in the Department of Information Science, organized an academic and cultural visit for the course's students to the Kuwait International Book Fair.
During the visit, the students explored the fair's atmosphere, visiting the various pavilions of community initiatives and representatives of official bodies that offer training and development opportunities. The tour included a visit to the Public Authority for Youth's pavilion, which showcased training programs to enhance young people's skills in innovation and entrepreneurship; the Sultanate of Oman's pavilion, which focused on Omani heritage through historical books and references; the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's pavilion, which presented publications on Saudi culture and youth development initiatives; the Integrity Commission's pavilion, which highlighted anti-corruption campaigns; the General Secretariat of Endowments; and the Suad Al-Sabah Publishing House, which displayed a variety of literary and cultural publications and informed the students about the scientific and cultural awards the publishing house offers to young people.
These organizations provided detailed explanations of their activities, which contributed to increasing student interest in participating. The visit also included an interactive experience through enriching dialogues between students and representatives of the organizations. Students learned about experiences integrating technology into society, such as the use of artificial intelligence in preserving cultural heritage, digital training programs for youth, and the use of computers to promote integrity and transparency. In this context, Dr. Iman Al-Shammari emphasized that organizing this visit underscores the importance of cultural activities in enriching students' lives academically and socially. She stated, "Developing students' skills and their early integration into the issues of their community enhances their awareness and prepares them for a more conscious and cultured future." She explained that such visits connect academic curricula with reality and contribute to building a creative and responsible generation that draws inspiration from its rich heritage and propels it into the new era. At the conclusion of the visit, the students expressed their delight with this experience, which combined science and culture, and their desire for more similar events to become active participants in building a cultured and innovative society.
