In an Effort to Raise Community Awareness and Support Humanitarian Initiatives:
The College of Life Sciences Organizes an Introductory Lecture on the Kuwaiti Special Olympics and Its Programs

Dr. Ghanima Al-Faleh, a faculty member from the Department of Food Science and Nutrition at the College of Life Sciences, organized an awareness lecture titled “Introducing the Kuwaiti Special Olympics and Its Programs” on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at the Roman Theater of the College of Life Sciences.

This event comes as part of the College of Life Sciences’ ongoing efforts to raise community awareness and highlight the initiatives aimed at supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities. It also aligns with the college’s commitment to promoting social responsibility and supporting impactful humanitarian efforts.

Several specialists and officials from the Kuwaiti Special Olympics delivered the lecture, including the National Director of the Kuwaiti Special Olympics, Ms. Rehab Boursli; Health Program Officer, Ms. Dalal Bouhamdi; Sports Program Officer, Captain Bilal Al-Hammami; and Program and Initiatives Officer, Ms. Linda Jaber.

Ms. Rehab Boursli began by introducing the concept of the Special Olympics, which focuses on individuals with intellectual disabilities. She discussed its origins and development, while Captain Bilal Al-Hammami emphasized that there is no specific age limit for individuals with intellectual disabilities to participate in the Olympics. Ms. Dalal Bouhamdi addressed the role of volunteerism in Kuwait in supporting these groups.

Dr. Ahmed Jaafar, a specialist in complex and chronic pediatric care and pediatric palliative care, gave a speech about his field and the reasons behind choosing his specialization. He expressed his happiness at being part of this active and exceptional community.

The lecture received notable engagement from students and guests. It highlighted the noble goals of the Special Olympics and its diverse programs in health, sports, and community fields, all aimed at promoting the integration of individuals with intellectual disabilities into society. The event also featured the introduction of athlete leaders with intellectual disabilities in Kuwait, who were welcomed on stage.

In conclusion, Acting Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs, Research, and Graduate Studies, Dr. Hanadi Abdulsalam, and Dr. Ghanima Al-Faleh honored the guests and participants.
