College of Life Sciences Master of Information Technology graduates Hawra Abdulredha and Aisha Al-Suwailem have made notable achievements on the international stage through pioneering research presented at prestigious scientific conferences under the supervision of Dr. Zainab Al-Maraj, Department of Information Sciences, College of Life Sciences

Graduate Hawra Abdulredha presented her research paper entitled “Challenges faced by visually impaired persons in accessing e-government via mobile: A multi-method evaluation” at the 11th International Conference on Software Development and Technologies for Enhancing Accessibility and Combating Digital Exclusion (DSAI). This prominent event was organized in collaboration with the Special Interest Group on Accessible Computing, affiliated with the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM SIGACCESS), and hosted by Khalifa University in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Dr. Zainab Al-Maraj, co-author and supervisor, delivered the presentation, where The paper shared with the international audience the discussion on the contributions of the paper and highlighted the status of digital accessibility in e-government in Kuwait and an overview of its status in the GCC region and the world, where it calls for the need to continue efforts for awareness, policies and regulations, and this paper supports improving inclusivity for all by focusing on developing accessible software and adopting the principles of inclusive design from the design stage. Graduate Aisha Al-Suwailem made a remarkable impact with her research paper entitled "Development and Evaluation of an Augmented Reality (AR) Application: A Case for Arabic Computational Studies". Presenting her findings at the IEEE International Humanitarian Technology Conference (IHTC) in Italy, Aisha captivated a diverse audience by showcasing her AR application model to enhance the academic performance of Arabic-speaking secondary school learners in computer studies, highlighting the potential of AR to advance educational practices in the region. Aisha won the Best Paper Award for Women at the conference from the Women in Engineering (WIE) IEEE Italy Section’s Affinity Group (AG), the first edition of the TUNE Award for Technology Support and Empowerment of Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Dr. Maraj also expressed her gratitude for the support and facilities provided by the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), which in turn contributed to this success.
