On Wednesday, November 20, 2024, the Department of Environmental Sciences at the College of Life Sciences organized a seminar entitled “Methane, Climate Change and Air Pollution in Kuwait”, presented by Dr. Evan Kozo, a scientist in atmospheric and environmental sciences from the University of North Carolina Asheville in the United States of America. The seminar addressed the environmental challenges facing Kuwait, including rising temperatures and their effects on energy efficiency and aviation, greenhouse gas emissions, especially methane, in addition to air pollution and its health risks. Dr. Kozo also discussed proposed solutions, such as switching to renewable energy, improving the efficiency of power plants, managing methane emissions using advanced technologies, and developing public transportation to reduce pollution, stressing the importance of local and international cooperation to achieve emission reduction goals and confront climate change. The seminar was attended by a number of faculty members and students, and discussions were raised about the need to adopt sustainable solutions to protect the environment and public health in Kuwait.
